This man appears to have no obvious Derby connections, so I posted a query on the Great War Forum
(http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php), and here is the answer I received:
"He was born in Burton-on-Trent (Q3 1897) according to the BMDs & censuses, and was living in Horninglow, Staffs, in 1901. The family moved to Loughborough by 1911 (should say "returned to Loughborough", because his older siblings were born in Loughborough, Leicester and London).
One connection with Derby is that his next-older brother Albert Henry married Ruth C KEEBLE in 1919, and their 5 children's births are all registered in Derby between 1920 and 1927."

Many thanks to Adrian for the information.
